Tar­get Dry AMD

Two con­sec­ut­ive pro­jects have been fun­ded by the Swiss Na­tion­al Sci­ence Found­a­tion (SNSF grants no. 160195 and no. 189341) to de­vel­op a cell-based non-vir­al gene the­ra­py to treat dry AMD simi­lar­ly to the Tar­get­AMD 1.0 ap­proach for wet AMD.

Tar­get Dry AMD

Goals

Only one the­ra­py ex­ists for the dry form of AMD, which – how­ever — con­cerns about 90% of pa­tients suf­fer­ing from AMD in total. This drug, Sy­fo­vre®, is cur­rently avail­able only in the United States and shows a sim­il­ar ad­min­is­tra­tion route and fre­quency as drugs for wet AMD, thus, shows com­par­able draw­backs.

Pro­ject status/Results

The Tar­get Dry AMD ap­proach is a pro­gres­sion of Tar­get­AMD 1.0 ap­ply­ing the same treat­ment ap­proach (sub­ret­in­al in­jec­tion of auto­log­ous ge­net­ic­ally mod­i­fied Iris Pig­ment Ep­ithe­lial cells) and tech­no­logy for ge­net­ic modi­fic­a­tion (non-vir­al Sleep­ing Beauty trans­po­son sys­tem).
